NORTH CORNWALL

Learn more about the area and what you can expect to see

Port Isaac is perhaps famed for it’s appearance and setting for ITV’s ‘Doc Martin’ and also for the resident celebrities ‘The Fishermans Friends’. In fact, skipper Jeremy is one of the members of this famous Cornish Folk Music group. But the ancient and historic village is also the home of Boaty and for the start of your trip, through the old tudor harbour walls.

On the day of your trip, we will pick the best trip for our passengers, taking into account the weather and the wildlife believed to be in the area at the time. Often, it’s possible to find dolphins (possibly everyone’s favourite?), seals, sunfish, puffins, guillemots, peregrine falcons and even whales and sharks. Yes, whales and sharks. But don’t be afraid, these glorious creatures will simply be curious if we are lucky enough to find them in the wild.

Your trip will include a ride alongside Cornwall’s beautiful Northern coastline, an area famed for it’s natural, rugged scenery. To the west of the village of Port Isaac we have Port Quin, with its early and sad tales of a lost fishing fleet, and also Puffin Island where, a small colony of puffins come back every year (April to July) along with gillymots in their breeding season. The island really is quite magical as we bob up and down and take in the majesty and sounds of thousands of birds roosting and chattering…

To the North East of Port Isaac you can make out some of the old mines that were carved out of the cliffs, by hand, many, many years ago and if conditions are right on the day of your trip, we can sometimes even get inside some of these caves for a look. Also in this direction is King Arthur’s Castle at Tintagel sitting at the hugely impressive and inspiring Tintagel Head. You can normally wave to those on shore and on the modern bridge from our view point at sea.

We do also do 1 hour trips along the coast to Padstow and back again, with just enough time normally for a quick ice cream on shore (it depends of course how big your ice cream is!) 2 hours trips can also be arranged and this will take in a combination of the trips detailed here along with a little more time for you to really take in all the majestic delights.
